On January 12, 2010, one day after his 18th birthday, CAPA High School honors student Jordan Trent Miles was ambushed by three plain clothes Pittsburgh police officers, who failed to identify themselves and approached him aggressively. The officers did not say “Stop! Police!”, they jumped out of an unmarked vehicle, one of them yelling “Where’s your money? Where’s the drugs? Where’s the gun?” Miles, never before in trouble with the police and thinking he was being robbed, began to run, and slipped on the icy sidewalk. The officers overtook Miles and administered a brutal beating that left him unrecognizable, ripping dreadlocks out of his head, and continuing to beat him as he lay on the ground after their initial assault, stammering the Lord’s Prayer. There can be no explaining away or excusing what was done to Miles.

The police officers lied about what happened, claiming there was a bulge in his pocket they assumed was a gun but “turned out to be a Mountain Dew bottle”. No bottle was ever entered into evidence, and Jordan and his friends will tell you he doesn’t even drink the soda. The officers also attempted to claim a neighbor reported him as a prowler and attempted to bring assault charges against Miles, which were tossed out of court when the neighbor said she did no such thing. Despite all this, the City of Pittsburgh went on to reward these violent officers with a commendation and, during their suspension, paid them more than they earned while working. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh DA has not brought charges and the Justice Department announced on May 4th, 2011 that it would not prosecute the three officers. The mayor and police chief announced on May 5th that the three officers would be returning to work.

“I feel that my son was racially profiled,” Terez Miles said. “It’s a rough neighborhood; it was after dark. … They assumed he was up to no good because he’s black. My son, he knows nothing about the streets at all. He’s had a very sheltered life, he’s very quiet, he doesn’t know police officers sit in cars and stalk people like that.”

It’s a sad fact, but for every Trayvon Martin, where the nation rises up and cries for justice, there a dozens of Jordan Miles and Marissa Alexanders. Jordan needs justice, but we can’t stop with having the police officers who assaulted him jailed. Our society needs to change. We need to stop seeing black men and thinking “criminal,” we need to stop seeing black women and thinking “it was her own fault.” 

I hate this country and the white people who reside in it. Fuck. You.

Omar Khadr, a sixteen year old Guantanamo Bay detainee weeps uncontrollably, clutching at his face and hair as he calls out for his mother to save him from his torment. “Ya Ummi, Ya Ummi (Oh Mother, Oh Mother),” he wails repeatedly, hauntingly with each breath he takes.

The surveillance tapes, released by Khadr’s defence, show him left alone in an interrogation room for a “break” after he tried complaining to CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) officers about his poor health due to insufficient medical attention. Ignoring his complaints and trying to get him to make false confessions, the officers get frustrated with the sixteen year old’s tears and tell him to get himself together by the time they come back from their break.

“You don’t care about me. Nobody cares about me,” he sobs to them.

The tapes show how the officers manipulated Khadr into thinking that they were helping him because they were also Canadian and how they taunted him with the prospect of home (Canada), (good) food, and familial reunion.

Khadr, a Canadian, was taken into US custody at the age of fifteen, tortured and refused medical attention because he wouldn’t attest to being a member of Al Qaeda, even though he was shot three times in the chest and had shrapnel embedded in his eyes and right shoulder. As a result, Khadr’s left eye is now permanently blind, the vision in his right eye is deteriorating, he develops severe pain in his right shoulder when the temperature drops, and he suffers from extreme nightmares.

He has been incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay since 2002, suffering extremely harsh interrogations and torture (methods), and is now 25 years old.

How can they justify shooting and imprisoning a CHILD

This is seriously serial-killer level torturing shit. If a single person did this, capturing a teenage boy and keeping them locked up and treating them like this, we’d call them a serial killer, a predator, a sociopath. 

But when the government does it and has several individuals on a lot of levels making it happen, suddenly it’s okay.

All the people defending the police state, ask yourself why they are there. To protect the property and closed door meetings of the elite and corporate forces that warmonger around the world. They joined the police force and left the working class, they are now part of a privileged class of people that enforce the law and protect the status quo. The only violence I see is that which is deemed legitimate by the state: police repression.

Why are we there? Because we want a better world, we want to stop invading countries and killing people. We want to stop private contractors and mercenaries from raping and pillaging. 

You want to know why we’re frustrated? Because protest in this country isn’t valued. The representatives don’t care what we have to say. The capitalists don’t care how many unemployed, under-remployed, exploited and homeless there are dying in the streets. The ‘representative’ government does not represent you!

More appropriately, what land of the free and home of the brave? What free speech? What free assembly? What public space?

Think they’ve got enough fuckin’ cops? P.S. you pay their salary with taxes. They should be thanking you while they beat your ass with sticks.
